White mineral plaster, Cycladic stone and deep timber pergolas edit the sea into a sequence of framed blue rooms.
Aster Bay House occupies a quiet fold of Antiparos above a sheltered cove, where the land falls gently through thyme and silver-green scrub. Instead of sitting as a single object on the ridge, the house is broken into a village-like sequence of low volumes connected by courts, steps and sheltered passages.
The social rooms gather beneath a deep timber canopy facing the water. Behind them, a white courtyard captures morning light and protects the kitchen from the prevailing wind. Walls of local stone extend through the interiors, giving the house weight and a sense that it belongs to the slope.
Five suites are arranged so that no bedroom looks directly into another. Each one has a private exterior room: a small garden, a sea terrace or a shaded stone bench. The principal suite sits at the quietest end of the plan with an outdoor bathing court and a direct path to the cove.
Aster Bay House is conceived for simple island occupation rather than spectacle. Materials are robust, services are concealed and every opening has been placed to hold a specific light, breeze or view. The result is generous without excess and private without feeling enclosed.
